Sophomore Nic Hotermans and junior Avery Leonard both turned in excellent performances to pace the alpine skiing teams Saturday in the slalom at the Harvard Carnival.

On the men’s side, Hotermans (Weston, Mass.) turned in the best performance of his career, taking 20th place out of 74 competitors with a two-run combined time of 1:26.72. With that effort, Hotermans earned 21 carnival points and 11 NCAA points. Junior captain Bo Underhill (Newbury, N.H.) and senior captain Crawford Jones (Killington, Vt.) rounded out the scoring for the Bobcats in 44th and 49th place respectively. Combined, the men tallied 35 carnival points.

For the women, Leonard (Madison, Wis.) continued her strong year, placing 24th out of 73 competitors with a two-run combined time of 1:36.67. She earned 20 carnival points and seven NCAA points for her performance. Sophomore captain Sequoia Anstine (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) and senior captain Grace Schierwagen (North Hampton, Pa.) also scored carnival points for the Bobcats, taking 35th and 36th place, good for 23 more carnival points between them, giving the Bobcat women 43 points overall, good for 10th place.

Combined, the alpine and Nordic skiing teams finished the Harvard Carnival with 256 points, which was enough for 11th place out of 14 schools. The alpine skiing teams are back in action this Friday and Saturday at the Williams Carnival, held at Jiminy Peak.
