Senior captain Colby Stakun-Pickering broke the school record in the indoor 200-meter dash, highlighting the Valentine Invitational Saturday for the Bates men’s track and field team. 

Stakun-Pickering (Wellesley, Mass.) raced to the finish in 22.31 seconds, breaking the previous program-best mark of 22.39, set by Erik Zwick ’01 in 2001.

The Bobcats impressed in a number of other events as well.

  • Stakun-Pickering teamed with senior Robby Griffin (Norwell, Mass.), first-year Evan Migdole (Westbrook, Conn.), and senior Peter Ackley (New Albany, Ohio) in the 4×400 relay, placing second in their section in 3:22.98.
  • Migdole won his section in the 400 meters, with a personal record time of 51.88 seconds.
  • Sophomore Kevin O’Connor (Milford, Mass.) won his section in the 200 meters with a personal record time of 23.16 seconds.
  • Sophomore Aidan Rooney (Bay Shore, N.Y.) set a personal record in the 800 meters in 1:55.62.
  • Senior Owen Glover (Andover, Mass.) won his section in the 800 meters with a personal record time of 1:57.30.
  • Sophomore Andrew Mottur (Rumford, R.I.) set a personal record in the mile at 4:21.46.
  • Senior captain Ryan Smith (Westport, Conn.) set a personal record in the 5K in 14:45.90, just missing the Bates Top-10 list in the event.
  • On Friday, the distance medley team of Rooney, Griffin, first-year Jackson Monz (North Logan, Utah), and sophomore Ben Huston (Vergennes, Vt.) placed second in their section in 10:13.41.
