The Bates women’s indoor track and field team turned in a number of strong performances Saturday at the MIT Tri-Meet, headlined by the Bobcats winning four events against competitors from the host Engineers and Southern Maine Huskies.


Meet Highlights:

  • First-year Moriah Scharn (Dunstable, Mass.) debuted with a win in the 60 meter hurdles, racing to the finish in 9.38 seconds, the sixth fastest time in Bates history.
  • Senior captain Alice Cockerham (Kingfield, Maine), senior captain Abbey Otterbein (Beverly, Mass.), first-year Olivia Krug (Fryeburg, Maine), and first-year Evelyn Marchand (Yarmouth, Maine) won the 4×400 relay in 4:33.53. 
  • Sophomore Julia Brophy (Waitsfield, Vt.) won the 400 meters in a personal record 1:09.88. Sophomore Celia Kirk (Weston, Mass.) also set a PR, taking third in 1:10.32.
  • Junior Kahryn Cullenberg (Farmington, Maine) won the 1000 meters in 3:17.54.
  • Junior Chrissy Aman (Hanover, N.H.) and Marchand took second (1:41.02) and third (1:48.14) respectively in the 600 meters.
  • Sophomore Maggie Hillwig (Phoenix, Md.) placed third in the shot put in her collegiate debut with a top throw of 38-6.25 (11.74m), the sixth best mark in program history.
  • Junior Alma Mackic (Lake Forest, Ill.) took third in the weight throw with a personal record heave of 45-1.75 (13.76m). Mackic also set a PR in the shot put with a top throw of 34-1.25 (10.39m).

The Bobcats are back in action next Friday and Saturday when they host the Bates Invitational at Merrill Gym.
