One year ago today, the mass vaccine site at the Auburn Mall opened. And today, after administering more than 65,000 doses, the site winds down its operations.
We offer our sincere thanks to all who made the site possible: Central Maine Medical Center - CMMC, Official City of Lewiston, Maine, State of Maine Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Androscoggin County Emergency Management Agency, St. Mary's Regional Medical Center, Maine Tri-County EMS, Maine National Guard, Auburn Mall and other community partners.
We are especially grateful to Jen Jordan, RN, CMH system director of medical specialties, and our own Auburn Fire Chief Robert Chase, who were co-directors of the site.
A few words from Chief Chase: "The vaccination clinic at the Auburn Mall has been instrumental to not only the health of greater Lewison-Auburn but all Central Maine communities. It is the longest continuously operating vaccination clinic in the state delivering over 65,000 vaccinations in the past year. This monumental accomplishment could not have been achieved without incredible community support. Thousands of volunteer hours have gone into the effort and many businesses have supported the clinic with food, drinks and supplies. The clinic’s success shows the value of the unprecedented partnerships that were formed to meet this community need. The cooperation between Central Maine Healthcare, Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center, The City of Auburn, the State of Maine and the National Guard was pivotal in vaccinating the population to fight this pandemic. I would also like to thank our great partners at the Auburn Mall, George, Marry-Anne and David for hosting the clinic for the past year and for supporting the needs of the clinic. We are blessed to have such great community partners and volunteers, who are willing to step up and help their neighbors in a time of need."
