Bowdoin College Defeats Bates in Four Sets to Collect Women's Volleyball Road Win

Bowdoin College rebounded from a first-set thawing as the visiting Polar Bears proceeded to put the freeze on home team Bates College the rest of the way, departing Alumni Gym with a 3-1 women's volleyball victory over the Bobcats.

Tuesday night's match marked the second of the season between the two conference rivals. The first match, a 3-0 win by Bowdoin back on Sept. 16 in Brunswick, went in the annals as an official NESCAC contest. This evening's showdown was of the non-conference variety.

Bates (5-12) came out red hot as the Bobcats, carried by Ami Evans (Fy.-Honolulu, Hawaii) and her four first-set kills, secured the frame by the score of 25-23. It would be all Bowdoin the rest of the way as the visitors pocketed wins of 25-18, 25-13, and 25-12 to sweep the season series and improve to 11-7 overall.

The aforementioned Evans paced the offense for Bates with her 10 overall kills, a new career-high for the first year. She also gathered nine digs, one short of recording a double-double performance. Alyssa Lowther (So.-Wyckoff, N.J.) also finished just short of a double-double with 11 digs and nine kills.

Ellie Asada (Honolulu, Hawaii), after collecting 26 digs vs. the Polar Bears last month, added 20 more tonight vs. Bowdoin. The first-year also dished eight assists. Emma Eide (Jr.-Ramsey, N.J.) distributed 18 assists of her own for the garnet-and-white.

The Bobcats head on the road for their next four matches, starting with a visit to St. Lawrence University (Canton, N.Y.) Friday afternoon at 5:00 p.m.
