TRINITY LAST WEEK:

Senior QB Spencer Fetter completed 20 of 26 passes for 361 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 38-3 victory over the visiting Bowdoin College Polar Bears in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) football action on Jessee/Miller Field at Tansill Muldoon Stadium. Trinity remained perfect for the season at 7-0 while the Polar Bears fell to 2-5. Trinity extended its winning streak over the Polar Bears to 22 games in a row.

The game started slowly for the Bantams who punted on their first drive and saw the Polar Bears drive to the Trinity 24-yard line on the first Bowdoin possession.  Trinity senior DL Christian Anzeveno sacked Bowdoin QB Andrew Boel for a three-yard loss on 4th-and-4 to end the threat. Trinity marched to the Bowdoin eight-yard line later in the first quarter but a Fetter fumble on a handoff was recovered by Mike Randall for the Polar Bears. Bowdoin advanced into Trinity territory again but Bantam DB Aidan Kennedy broke up a pass on 4th-and-10 to end that drive early in the second quarter.

Trinity opened the scoring with a three-yard touchdown run by junior RB Colin McCabe at the 11:50 mark of the second frame, after the Bantams had gained 59 yards to the Polar Bear five-yard line on a fake punt that saw junior LB Dan Calderon take a direct snap and sprint untouched almost to the end zone. Bowdoin took advantage of a muffed punt to get on the board, as Jotham Casey kicked a 23-yard field goal shortly after Slade Postemski had recovered the muff at the Trinity 16-yard line. The Bantams broke the game open with two scores in a span of 2:24 just before halftime, as Fetter found WR DeVante Reid  for touchdown passes of 10 and 23 yards to give Trinity a 21-3 lead at the break. Fetter had 209 passing yards at intermission.

Trinity scored twice and forced two Bowdoin punts in the third quarter, going ahead, 28-3, on a 21-yard pass from Fetter to TE Thomas Walsh and adding a 23-yard field goal by sophomore Matt Jumes. Fetter tossed his fourth score to sophomore Sean Clapp, who finished the game with eight catches for 159 yards, for a 25-yard touchdown, while Bowdoin threatened twice late but could not convert. Trinity DE Noah Glantz made a tackle for loss on a 4th-and-2 for Bowdoin from Trinity's 25-yard line to end Bowdoin's best chance for second-half points.

BATES LAST WEEK:

Senior Christian Olivieri recorded two touchdown receptions and sophomore Colton Bosselait threw for three scores and ran for another, but the Bates football team fell 41-28 at Williams Saturday in NESCAC action.

A week after setting the Bates program record for receptions in one game, Olivieri (Hull, Mass.) caught a game-high seven passes for a team-high 77 yards and a pair of touchdowns, including one for the highlight reels.

With Bates trailing 27-14 in the third quarter, the Bobcats had the ball and a first down at the Williams 36-yard line. Bosselait (Westminster, Mass.) rolled to his right and threw a dime deep to the end zone. Olivieri leapt over the defender and caught the ball with one hand, bringing it into his chest for the touchdown. Junior Archie Green Jr. (Upland, Calif.) made the extra point and Bates trailed 27-21 with 4:15 left in the third quarter.

But that's as close as the Bobcats (2-5) got against the Ephs (2-5), as the Williams offense proved difficult to stop throughout the afternoon.

On just the second play from scrimmage on the ensuing drive, Dan Vaughn connected with Cameron Lee for a 66-yard touchdown and the Ephs led by 13 again.

They went up 41-21 on a 37-yard strike from Vaughn to Sam Jaffe with 8:46 left in the fourth quarter.

Bates answered with a nine-play, 75-yard drive that concluded with a short touchdown pass from Bosselait to Olivieri with 5:58 remaining, making the score 41-28. But the Ephs were able to run out the clock on their next possession, clinching the win over the Bobcats.

BATES' AND TRINITY'S LAST MEETING:

The Bantams scored three touchdowns in the first 11 minutes en route to a 45-7 victory over the visiting Bates football team at Jessee/Miller Field

The Bobcats went three-and-out on their first possession and Trinity immediately capitalized when Enzi Dabner-Teacher got a hand on the Bates punt to give the Bantams excellent field position on its first offensive possession. Opening on the Bobcat 41-yard line, Trinity quickly marched down the field and scored the game's first touchdown on an eight-yard pass from quarterback Spencer Fetter to wide receiver Jonathan Girard 1:39 into the game. Trinity tacked on two more scores on a six-yard run by running back William Kirby and a 19-yard pass from Fetter to wide receiver DeVante Reid to lead, 21-0, with 4:25 left in the first quarter.

The Bantams added to their lead in the second quarter, resulting in a 31-0 halftime advantage thanks to a 22-yard field goal by Matt Jumes and an 11-yard touchdown reception by Girard. Kirby added a pair of touchdown runs early in the third quarter to make the score 45-0. Bates took advantage of a Trinity fumble to score a touchdown on a 28-yard scoring strike from senior Brendan Costa (Westport, Mass.) to Christian Olivieri (Hull, Mass.). George Hawkins III (Jacksonville, Fla.) recovered the fumble for the Bobcats. Neither team's second unit scored in the fourth frame.
