Androscoggin County Sheriff's Office Alternative Sentencing Program

Our Corrections Division recently held an Alternative Sentencing Program from October 21-28. Participants in the program were from seven different counties within the state: Androscoggin-8, York-10, Cumberland-16, Sagadahoc-1, Franklin-4, Somerset-1, and Oxford-1. The participants completed a total of 961 labor hours for the City of Auburn which saved the city roughly $16,000 in employment costs before benefits. The participants also attended AA meetings Saturday thru Thursday night by various volunteers from the community.

The participants completed the following tasks: raked, picked up trash, cleaned off headstones and raked and picked leaves at Oak Hill Cemetery. They raked, picked up leaves, and picked up trash at Bonney, Raymond, Moulton and CLT parks.

The participants also painted the front office at the Auburn Parks & Recreation Department.

The participants went through and checked, cleaned, and organized all the Christmas lights and decorations that public works will be displaying. They organized and cleaned the main garage at the Auburn Public Works garage. They also assisted with setting up and breaking down of the various Senior programs during the week and helped set up the tent for the haunted house at the PAL Center.

Participants also spent a whole day working with the Share Center located at the old Martel School in Lewiston where the participants moved furniture and boxes to their new location on outer Lisbon Road. They also removed twelve 1 ton trucks full of trash.
