The CM Mustangs had their first home games of the season against Great Bay Community College and Southern Maine Community College on Saturday, September 10th. Both games were competitive, but the Mustangs were able to fight them off and win both matches.
During the first match of the day against Great Bay, the Mustangs were plagued by errors, not allowing CM to get into any offensive groove. The first set was tight, but the Mustangs started to put some distance between them and Great Bay in set two. In set three, the Mustangs looked more like themselves, winning by over ten points.
The second match against Southern Maine Community College was more of the same. Still struggling with errors, the Mustangs dropped the first set of the match by 5 points. Although they continued to struggle with hitting errors and reception errors, the Mustangs were able to win the next three sets in a row to close out the match.
Tiara Begishe, libero and team captain, provided much needed stability in serve receive and defense. Her scrappy back row play helped swing the momentum in the Mustang's favor in several critical moments.
Although the Mustangs were able to win both matches, Coach Chapman was not completely satisfied with how his team preformed. "I am happy to walk away with the wins, but I don't feel like we played to our potential. Luckily we have a lot of time to work and get better."
