Bates College Emma Eide Eclipses 1,000-Assist Plateau in Tuesday's 3-1 Volleyball Victory at Southern Maine

Bates College's Emma Eide made history Tuesday as the junior setter joined the 1,000-assist club in leading the Bobcats to a 3-1 non-conference women's volleyball at the University of Southern Maine (2-8).

Coming into the night needing two aiders to reach the career milestone, the Ramsey, N.J. native connected with teammate Julia Neumann (So.-Norwell, Mass.) late in the first set, putting the Bobcats up 16-7 en route to a 25-10 win in the initial frame. Bates grabbed a 2-0 advantage after taking set two, 25-21. The Huskies muscled out a 25-16 win in the third before the road team closed out the triumph with a 25-18 decision in the fourth-and-final stanza.

Eide ended the evening with a double-double effort (second of year) consisting of match-highs in assists (29) and digs (20). She also added six service aces for the garnet and white. Eide now averages 6.78 assists-per-set over the team's first seven matches of the season.

Alyssa Lowther (So.-Wyckoff, N.J.) reached double-digits for the third time in the kills column, topping all players with 10 on the night. Katie Kortekaas (So.-Manhattan Beach, Calif.) and Kate Ares (Fy.-Milton, Ga.) floored seven kills apiece while the trio of Ares, Lowther, and Bella Lomet (Fy.-Burbank, Calif.) soared for two blocks each.

Ellie Asada (Fy.-Honolulu, Hawaii) garnered her second-consecutive 15-dig performance while also landing four service aces.

Bates (4-3) returns to Alumni Gym for the first time since Sept. 6 this Friday night as the Bobcats host Brandeis University at 7:00 p.m.
