Central Maine Community College Mustangs sweep weekend in pair of routs

Women's Basketball hosted YSCC foes, Albany College of Pharmacy and Vermont Tech this weekend in the midst of their 5-game homestand. The Mustangs left little doubt, winning both games in convincing fashion to improve to 11-0 overall.

Game 1: 12/2 vs. Albany College of Pharmacy (72-28, win)

The Mustangs led from start to finish in their weekend opening game. They held the Panthers to just 5 first half points. No start for the Mustangs played more than 22-minutes, with all players seeing at least 5-minutes of court time. Emily Strachan (Lewiston, ME) led the Mustangs with 10 points. Kali Thompson (Waterville, ME), Rayna Duzant (St. Albans, NY) and Elizabeth Barrientos (Manchester, NH) tallied 8 points each. Thompson also pulled down a team-high 8 rebounds. Clara Bandh (Sollentuna, Sweden) led the team with 4 assists.

Clare Snell scored a game-high 20 points for the Panthers.

The Mustangs forced 33 turnovers and won the battle on the boards, by +21.

Game 2: 12/3, vs. Vermont Tech, (83-38, win)

Saturday's game against the Knights of Vermont Tech was more of the same. CM scored 31 first quarter points and cruised to an 83-38 victory. They forced 44 turnovers, 31 by way of steals.

Mikenzie Melendez (Saco, ME) played her best game of her young career, while also registering her second start. Melendez finished with 13 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 6 steals - all team-highs. Emily Strachan (Lewiston, ME) was the only other player to score double-figures, she hit for 10 points in just 14-minutes. Myah Nicolas (Lewiston, ME), Kierstyn Lyons (Mexico, ME), Luna Love (Zwolle, Netherlands) and Cyla Moore (W. Palm Beach, FL) all scored 9 points apiece. 

Coreeahn Yharborough led the Knights with a game-high 20 points, but was forced into committing 18 turnovers.

With the win the Mustangs improved to 11-0 overall and 4-0 in the Yankee Conference. They will be back in action on Wednesday at 8:00pm when they play host to the Lynx of NHTI.
