Cost of college went up for all students at Bates College

Tuition and fees rose 3.4 percent for 2018-19 at Bates College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Maine students paid $53,794 to attend the four-year private not-for-profit institution this year – $1,752 more than the $52,042 charged for 2017-18.

Data shows 46 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 218 students received grants or scholarships totaling $9.5 million and 110 students took out student loans totaling more than $775,045.

Including all undergraduates (1,832), 793 students used grants or scholarships totaling $33.9 million, and 395 students took out $2 million in federal student loans.
