Sophomore Simon Clarke scored the second goal of his collegiate career and the Bates men's soccer team drew 1-1 with Endicott Monday night on the road in non-conference action.
The Bobcats (5-4-4) found themselves down 1-0 to the Gulls (9-3-4) in the 45th minute when Ryan Gerry found the back of the net for an unassisted tally.
But seconds later, Bates junior John O'Connor (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) got the ball to senior Ciaran Bardong (Manhasset, N.Y.). He held off a couple defenders and slipped it to Clarke (Redwood City, Calif.), who finished brilliantly from 25 yards out. Clarke lofted the ball into the top corner of the net for the equalizer just before halftime.
First-year Nico Hessel (Brattleboro, Vt.) played all 90 minutes in goal and made a pair of saves for the Bobcats. Endicott out-shot Bates 10-7 and both teams finished with three shots on goal.
The Bobcats have now posted four straight draws and are undefeated in the month of October (2-0-4).
Bates returns to NESCAC play Saturday when the Bobcats visit defending national champion Connecticut College for a match that gets underway at 2pm.
