Sophomore Sophie Cassily won the NESCAC title in the 100-yard backstroke and junior Grace Wenger nearly broke her own school record in the 200-yard freestyle, highlighting day three of the NESCAC Championships for the Bates women's swimming and diving team. 

One day after finishing NESCAC runner-up and breaking her own school record in the 50-yard backstroke, Cassily (Rye, N.H.) took home the conference championship in the 100 back with a winning swim of 55.75 seconds, an NCAA "B" Cut time and more than a second ahead of runner-up Madison Hagberg from Tufts. It's the second career NESCAC title for Cassily. Last year she earned the conference crown in the 200-yard backstroke and she'll get a chance to defend that title on Sunday. 

Meanwhile, Wenger (Hanover, N.H.) finished runner-up in the 200-yard freestyle, nearly breaking her own school record in the event with an NCAA "B" Cut time of 1:49.42. Wenger set the program record at last year's NESCAC Championships, where she took third in 1:49.41. 

A number of Bobcats turned in top-8 performances on Saturday.

• Senior captain Abigail Gibbons (Westtown, N.Y.) placed fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke in an NCAA "B" Cut time of 1:03.72. 
• Cassily, Gibbons, first-year McKayla Kendall (Bangor, Maine), and junior Marjorie McLeod (Durham, Maine) teamed up to finish fourth in the 200-yard medley relay with an NCAA "B" Cut time of 1:44.88.
• Junior Natalie Young (Windham, N.H.) took fifth in the 400-yard IM in 4:30.67.
• Junior Julia Johnson (Cleveland Heights, Ohio) finished seventh in the 1000-yard freestyle in 10:33.37.

Bates is in sixth place out of 11 schools as a team. The Bobcats have tallied 606.5 points so far with one day remaining.
